Investigation of dampers using high-resolution Synchrotron CT

The Zimmer Group, headquartered in Rheinau, Germany, is an internationally active manufacturer of components and system solutions for industrial automation. Among other things, the company develops and manufactures gripper technology, linear technology, clamping and braking elements, and industrial damping systems. Particularly in the field of damping technology, the Zimmer Group offers solutions that controllably decelerate movements in machines and systems and reduce mechanical stress. As a result, the components help to extend the service life of systems and improve the reliability of automated processes. As part of a project, dampers were examined in detail after endurance tests at ANAXAM to better understand their functional behavior and further optimize them.

ANAXAM's material analytical techniques, utilizing high-resolution synchrotron CT, were successfully applied to non-destructively investigate the component locations and the distribution of silicone oil inside the damper following a durability test.
